Ready for the Studio!

The brand new song that I've been working on will be visited in the studio soon.  The lyrics are complete and all aspects of songwriting are complete.  But here's the kicker...

***This song will be recorded as a full band and released as a single.  It will also have a strictly acoustic guitar and vocal version that will be the first release on the "Light in the Shadows" album.

When I was writing this song and the melody was finalized, it was obvious to me that this melody line needed some strong harmonies to accompany it.  As I visualized the song with those harmonies, the need for a full band became apparent and I knew the song needed to be first released as it is meant to be.

Once I had all of this figured out, I posted on Threads that my upcoming song was supposed to be just acoustic and vocal, but it turned into a full band.  My friend @sinseer.music suggested I make two versions like Evanescence did with My Immortal.  What a great stinking idea that was!  (By the way, go check out Sin Seer's freaking awesome metal music on BandCamp here!)

Lyrical Surprise

 Tonight, I experienced the reason why one should never throw lyrics away just because they don’t fit into the song you’re working on. When I write lyrics, I exclusively save them to my Google Drive.  Anything that I type saves automatically, and I’d have to purposefully delete a whole document in order to lose the work.  I’m glad I do it this way, because I came across a gem tonight that might need a couple edits here and there, but these lyrics really hit home for me again, like I had just written them yesterday.  They were actually written almost 11 months ago.  I can’t wait to put them to music.  So many ideas…

My First Post

 Hi, everyone! This blog is about my acoustic journey. I’m The Sound Ninja.  I’m a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist from Minnesota USA who plays everything you hear in my music unless a featured artist is noted.  I have a couple full-length albums and a bunch of singles out on all the major streaming platforms, plus Bandcamp. Pretty recently, I’ve started working on a new heavy rock / metal project with my friend from England you may know as Operation Neptune Spear, and we call ourselves Minus Context.  We are working on a full-length album, and we have a ways to go. That brings me to the purpose of this blog.  With all of the super heavy, blasting and facemelting music that we are working on as Minus Context, sometimes I personally really like to have a cool down.  Some of my favorite music ever made is by the heavy rock artists that step back and play a moody ballad. Acoustic Influences

 I wanted to make a quick playlist showcasing some of the songs that influenced my love for acoustic music by heavy rockers. Acoustic Influences - YouTube Music The top of the pack is "Bleed" by Cold.  They were one of my biggest influences in music in general, with their dark melodies, pounding drums, crushing guitars/bass, etc.  "Bleed" stripped out all of that, bringing a different, but so relevant, mood to the table.  Such an incredible song with intense introspection with poetry, melody and sincerity. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like for someone to have such respect for a song that I wrote that it would influence them forever like this song has for me.  Thank you, Scooter Ward.  You did that for me.
